Nice to meet you my name is Karim. I was born in Japan and moved to the United States in 2013 so if you like things from Japan you're in good company. I love roller skating, drawing, sewing, and spending time with my cats. I'm a military dependent so I've moved around a lot and love to travel.
I completed my bachelor’s degree in psychological sciences at Northern Arizona University and then moved to Denver to complete my master's degree in counseling psychology at the University of Denver. During my internship I had the chance to work with a wide range of individuals from ages 5 to 80 years old. I have experience working with active-duty military members, veterans, first-responders, healthcare workers and their families. I also have a strong background working in substance use recovery with three years of experience running groups and assisting with programming.
When it comes to counseling I love to work from an intersectional lens, making sure to look at all sides of a person to help them get to where they want to be. Being biracial (Black and Japanese) I recognize that no identity is flat, so I often take on a multicultural orientation when working with others. I prefer to take a integrative therapy approach so I'll use some techniques from multicultural counseling, narrative therapy, cognitive therapy, person-centered as well as behavioral therapy and psychodynamic therapy. Everyone is the narrator of their own story, let's see where this next chapter takes you.
