Hi I’m Cristina, I received my Masters in Counseling Education from Adams State University and I am a licensed professional counselor candidate in the state of Colorado. I have experience working with children, teens and families.
I started my career in art education and I often incorporate expressive arts into the therapeutic process, along with additional mindfulness techniques and play therapy. I have a restorative practice approach to counseling. I customize therapy according to each individual’s needs. I often incorporate CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) SFT (Solution Focused Brief Therapy) and MI (Motivational Interviewing).
I have worked in education, specifically elementary education for over 12 years as an art teacher, and as a school counselor. I’m trained in Restorative Justice and Practices and am a current licensed School Counselor in the state of Colorado which allows me to provide services specific to individuals and families that may have struggles in school based learning.
I work with clients experiencing disruptive behavior, relationship challenges, self-esteem issues, anxiety, depression and the LGBTQIA populations. I am pursuing a post masters in play therapy and incorporate play, puppets and Bibliotherapy with my youngest clients. I am also pursuing a post masters in mindfulness and leadership and believe that these practices can be excellent therapeutic tools.
I take a person-centered approach to counseling and aim to provide a positive relationship for non-judgmental counseling in a safe and professional service to all my clients. I believe that everyone should feel heard and have a safe and healing place to work through all of life’s difficulties.
In my spare time, I love to create repurposed art, practice yoga, and I’m always working on another degree (I’m a life-long learner). I also love to spend time outdoors with my silly young daughter and my three naughty Beagles.
